Maple Leaf Square will not be renamed Ford Square

Maple Leaf Square will be getting a less extreme makeover than previously thought.

Rather than the contentious “Ford Square,” the area outside Gate 5 at the Air Canada Centre (ACC) will be known as the “Ford Fan Zone at Maple Leaf Square.”

The renaming is part of a renewed, five-year sponsorship deal between Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment (MLSE) and Ford Motor Company.

As part of the partnership, Ford will award 200 free tickets to every Leafs game at the ACC over the next five years.

Fans can compete for tickets through a Twitter and Facebook campaign that asks fans to participate in challenges to show their dedication to the Leafs.

“Ford of Canada is committed to helping the most passionate Leafs fans earn tickets to see the team they love,” said Ford’s vice president of marketing, Jack Palazzolo, in a news release.

Winners will be seated in the newly-designed “Ford Fan Deck.”
