Tamil community holds blood drive in honour of fallen heroes

November is a time of remembrance and on Saturday the Tamil community held a blood drive in Scarborough to remember fallen heroes

The National Council of Tamils held the fourth annual drive at the Canada Kanthasamy Temple Hall on Birchmount Road.

Demison Alwin, who coordinated the event, said it’s all about saving lives in the name of those no longer with us.

“We are organizing this blood drive to remember the fallen heroes,” Demison said in a statement.“They were fighting to save lives – you can save lives in their name, just by donating blood”

Canada’s blood supply recently dipped to “critically low”, but has been replenished since then. Canadian Blood Services says roughly every minute, every day, someone in this country needs blood.

“People have lots of things on their agenda,” Grace Rylett of the Canadian Blood Services explained. “We’re hoping that maybe (they will) take the time for one hour to come out and save lives by making a donation.”
