Melanie Ng

Anchor & Reporter, CityNews

A passion for news and current events, Melanie Ng has been reporting on and anchoring local, national, and international stories for the past five years.

Since joining CityNews in 2010 as a field reporter, Ng has covered some of the biggest events to hit Toronto and the GTA, including the Danzig shooting in Scarborough, the Occupy Toronto demonstrations, and both municipal and provincial elections. In addition to her reporting role, Ng also anchored CityNews’s weekend newscasts.

For the past few years, Ng has brought CityNews viewers interviews with Hollywood royalty from the Toronto International Film Festival. Ng reported from the festival’s most-anticipated red carpets, interviewing the likes of Brad Pitt, Ben Affleck, Johnny Depp, Bruce Willis, and Gwyneth Paltrow.

In September of 2012, Ng’s role at City was expanded to anchor the news for Breakfast Television, Toronto’s #1 morning show, where she also reported live on-location on the morning’s top stories, and co-hosted segments with Breakfast Television hosts.

Prior to joining City, Ng worked for CHCH News, and local Ontario radio stations in such roles as reporter, videographer, and weekend news anchor. Before pursuing a career in broadcast journalism, she worked in public relations.

Hailing from Oakville, ON, Ng graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University with a double honours degree in Communications Studies and English, and a minor in History. She also holds a certificate in Public Relations from Humber College and a certificate in Broadcast Journalism from Seneca College.
